Dr. John Swengel
DVM
A member of the team to first successfully implant a pacemaker in a dog, Dr. John Swengel established Swengel Animal Hospital in 1983. A native of Indianapolis, Dr. Swengel previously practiced medicine as a clinician at Shelby Street Animal Clinic from 1971 to 1983. Dr. Swengel attended Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1971. His professional interests include general surgery and internal medicine. Dr. Swengel is a member of a number of veterinary and professional organizations, including the Central Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (Past President), the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He also served previously as a board member of the Indiana State Board of Health and Controlled Substances Subcommittee and is a past member of the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Dr. Swengel and his wife, Anne, have two children, Julie and Jenni. His hobbies include golf, skiing, reading and riding his motorcycle.
Dr. Carolyn Kacocha
DVM
Dr. Carolyn Kacocha graduated from Purdue University in 2000. After graduation, she worked at a 24-hour emergency clinic in Louisville, KY. While working in Louisville, she volunteered for Alley Cat Advocats, Woodstock Foundation and Indy Feral. She relocated to Indianapolis in 2003 and practiced in Anderson at an emergency center until March 2009 when she relocated to VCA Swengel Animal Hospital. She enjoys spending time with her dog, Toby and her 5 cats. Her hobbies include knitting, reading, spending time outdoors and running. In 2013, Dr. Kacocha ran in her first Indy 500 festival mini marathon.
